The Attic Studio
The Attic Studio is a community of actors, directors, writers & producers who have been meeting since early 2002 to explore drama, share ideas and network. The studio is run on a membership basis, with new attendees invited by existing members. There are Attic Members working in all aspects of the industry.  We encourage potential members to seek out existing Attic Members in their Community, and request an invite. If you are having difficulty finding an Member, email your headshot and CV to info@theatticstudio.net and let us know. We hold a workshop once a week and our priority is to explore and create new work.

Conditions

The Attic Studio Workshop is run on a non pay basis, while promoting plays, events and other discounted training is encouraged, it is inappropriate to solicit participants for profit making purposes.

When there is a performance in progress members must refrain from talking or moving about as this can be distracting for the actors.

The workshops are designed with professional actors in mind, while the social element of the workshop is to be encouraged, primary focus should always be on the work.

To date we provide:

  • a networking opportunity for established and upcoming writers, directors and actors at our weekly workshops held in the Filmbase building.
  • a script and play reading service for writers to preview a script in front of an audience who provide critical feedback both on the night and via the forum on our website.
  • a service where scenes from scripts or plays can be performed at the workshop. The scenes are rehearsed in advance with a director and staged in front of an audience as above.
  • a platform for actors to showcase their skills in front of writers, directors and producers.
  • a service to actors where upcoming auditions are posted on our website forum.
  • a service to production companies to advertise upcoming plays, screenings or readings, also through the website.
  • an actors listing service to the film and theatre industries via our “Irish Actors Network” section of the website. This is a database of CVs and headshots of actors who participate at the workshops. This database is fully indexed, allowing searches for specific requirements. The site is utilized extensively by the film and theatre industries.
  • seminars with local and international industry professionals.
  • documents from industry professionals on several aspects of the film and theatre industries in our White Papers section of the website.
  • services such as headshot photography and monologue recording at extremely cheap rates.
  • discounts in several areas such as tickets, services and products through our network of associates in the film, theatre and support industries.
  • showcase evenings where filmmakers screen their work to critical feedback.
  • fundraising events to generate income for charities and to help fund several theatre and film projects.

We have also produced and co-produced several theatre and film projects and have provided an advisory or support service to many more.

In addition we represent actors, writers and directors through our many members who sit on boards and advisory panels of other arts organizations.

We are also very active in canvassing other industry bodies and companies to develop standard working practices and a common language between the different disciplines within the film and theatre industries.

The Attic Studio has a rotating committee of eight active members that organise and facilitate the workshops and determine policy along with the founders.

Founders: Rachel Rath, Graham Cantwell
