| "Even though this new evidence may establish Mr. Richey's innocence, the Ohio and United States Constitutions nonetheless allow him to be executed because the prosecution did not know that the scientific testimony offered at trial was false and unreliable." - Prosecutor Dan Gershutz “I am sure that most of the world's leading forensic scientists in this field would be horrified if they saw the chromatograms used to convict Kenny Richey. If Kenny Richey were executed on the basis of this scientific evidence, then these chromatograms will become historical documents, examined by scientists all over the world to show just how wrong forensic evidence can be.” - Tony Cafe, Arson Expert
The Attic Studio in association with MOJO Scotland recently staged a reading of Johnny Brown's radio play "A Letter From Death Row" on Wednesday the 25th January at 7:30pm in Filmbase, Curved Street, Temple Bar to help raise awareness of the case of Kenny Richey, an innocent Scot on death row in the state of Ohio in the USA. Here is a link to an
excerpt from the reading, Kenny's closing speech: It explains most of the reasons why many people believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that Kenny is innocent of the crime he was convicted of. There are links at the bottom of this page to more information on the case. From Amnesty
International:
We managed to raise money for Kenny's campaign and caused a bit of a stir with a projection onto the wall of the Temple Bar Music Centre and audio pumped out into the street. The reading was introduced by Irvine Welsh, a passionate supporter of Kenny's cause and was attended by a large gathering of Attic Studio members. Gary Lewis of Billy Elliott fame read Kenny Richey and Patrick Joseph Byrnes read the prosecutor who made his career on the back of this incredible miscarriage of justice.
MOJO Scotland (www.mojoscotland.com) asked us to host the event, which mirrored similar readings in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, Orkney and a live transmission on BBC radio and via the internet on http://www.resonancefm.com/ We have sent letters to Kenny written by members of the studio at the workshops. We're waiting to hear back from Kenny and when we do we will be forwarding him photos and a recording of the radio play.
At the moment we are in the process of putting together a recording of a song written by Len Arran to publicise the campaign and Kenny's plight further. For background on the case visit the following websites.
