The Attic Studio
Workshops
The Attic Studio is a community of professional actors, writers
and directors who are active in the film and theatre industries
in Ireland. We don't provide schooling or training, we develop
material with writers by utilizing experienced actors for
readings and scene studies and we hold workshops to deepen our
understanding of the craft. We prioritise actors for whom acting
is their first profession.
Location
The Attic Studio workshops are located in the basement
of the Filmbase building at Curved Street in Temple Bar.

Layout
The workshop usually follows a set format, but from time to
time it can change, for example if a guest speaker attends. Below
is the general layout of a typical workshop:
• 7:00pm Meet and greet – new members are welcomed and information
shared
• 7:30pm – Workshop – a different workshop each week
• 9:00pm Break
• 9:15pm Resume
• 10:30pm Finish
As stated this can change from week to week so be sure to check
out the forum at www.theatticstudio.net/forum/ for details of
upcoming workshops.
Writers & Directors
One of our main services is providing a space for writers to see
their material performed and critiqued while it is still in
development and to allow directors to have hands on experience
directing actors on a regular basis.
To have your material performed at the workshop just email
info@theatticstudio.net
with a copy of what you would like to have read, including a
detailed character breakdown to assist in casting the piece.
To put yourself forward to direct material log in to the forum and
sign up in the post under the “Writers and Directors” thread.
New to The Attic
New attendees at The Attic Studio workshops must be invited by
and accompanied by an existing member.
It is important that people who have not attended the workshops
before are given an accurate idea of what the workshops consist
of.
This is sometimes difficult, as the format can change quite
radically from week to week and sometimes people feel left out.
This is not our intention.
A few things to do on your first night:
• Give us your details – we send information around on a regular
basis & use our mailing list to verify registration on the
forum, so make sure you give us your name, phone no. & email
address.
• Mingle – one of the primary functions of the workshops is as a
networking opportunity. Introduce yourself to others and tell them
what you do. Don’t be shy.
• Observe – a lot of people like to sit back and watch for the
first week or so, just to get into the swing of things. This is
fine, we don’t want anyone to feel pressured into participating.
• Offer your services – If you are an actor find out who the
writers are and let them know you are available to perform
material for them.
The workshops are an integral part of The Attic Studio and are
there for the benefit of all involved. If you have any comments,
suggestions or criticisms email us in confidence at
info@theatticstudio.net.
Above all try to enjoy the workshops. Here you get to practice and
develop your craft with fellow professionals in a supportive
environment.
